General Alert

NEW SIGNAL NOTICE- Location: State Route 241 and Traphagen St.
A new traffic signal at the S.R. 241 (Wales Ave.) and Traphagen St. intersection is scheduled to be placed in Stop-and-Go operation (Red, Yellow, Green) on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. Until then, signal heads are operating in flash mode (Red to Traphagen St. and Yellow to S.R. 241) until the Tuesday activation.

Recently the entrance/exit drive from Sam’s on Portage has been reconfigured. This reconfiguration is partially due to a report put together by Det. Kim Haines and given to Major Ty Bissler. In the report, the stats for the number of automobile crashes which occurred at this location for 2012 and 2013 were collected. The report was broken out into injury and non-injury crashes. This location was compared to the intersection which is just west at the traffic signal. The number of crashes was significantly lower at the traffic light than at the location next to I-Hop. Major Bissler contacted the Stark County Engineers and made them aware of the situation. Major Bissler then worked with Stark County Engineers and Stark Enterprises to make this location safer. Drivers now exit from Sam’s Club turning right only and the entrance to Sam’s can only be made while traveling east on Portage. This reconfiguration should greatly decrease the number of traffic crashes at this location.

Jackson Township Park Department

To preserve green space, Jackson Township has created an extensive park system consisting of eight parks with over 240 acres of land where residents can play, enjoy nature and the outdoors.  There are recreation and sports facilities to satisfy most everyone, including baseball, softball, soccer, football, and lacrosse fields, tennis and volleyball courts and children's playgrounds, plus hiking, running, walking and picnic facilities.  Thousands of residents participate in organized youth sports programs each year.  The park facilities are constantly being expanded, and many community events are held throughout the parks all year long.
